When I first heard about Melissani Lake I was sceptical. A cave
filled with the bluest water you could imagine, it read in the brochure.
All right, I thought, this is surely a tourist trap. But so wrong I
was. When I came down and saw the azure blue cave lake, I could do nothing
but roll my eyes. It was so cool! Melissani Lake is undoubtedly the
most interesting attraction on Kefalonia. Some believe this is the Nymphs
cave that Homer wrote about in the Odyssey. Something
that specifically denied by those who believe that Ithaca is
the home island of Odysseus; where there actually is a cave called
the Nymphs cave. What is right or wrong we'll probably never know. Anyway,
the cavelake is impressive and a visit is a must when you're in Kefalonia.
