Serifos - Moni Taxiarchon

The monastery, built in 1572, is located on the north Serifos 1 km from Ghalani and 17 km from Livadi. During its heyday was Moni Taxiarchon an important religious and financially centre. The monastery was built as an impregnable fortress with high walls; the only entrance is small and was easy to defend. The monastery's church (katholikon) is very beautiful outside and inside. Here are several monk cells around the monastery courtyard, it is said that as many as 100 monks lived here once. Today there is only a single monk. Home »
